My previous reproductive endocrinologist would never prescribe supplements. I would always admit, embarrassed, that I was taking unprescribed, natural supplements. But my new RE started me on a special regimen. Daily, I'm taking one Theralogix TheraNatal Ovavite (an over-priced pre-natal vitamin), two CoQ pills, and up to three DHEA pills. They are a special combination to enhance egg quality, and the doctor says the earlier I can take them before IVF, the better.
I'm most concerned about the DHEA because I've heard such awful side effects- like hair loss, growth of FACIAL HAIR, and irritability... I've been closely observing my hair balls in the shower- trying to see if it's more than before I started the DHEA. I have pretty thick hair- and truly I used to have it thinned by hair dressers. I'm trying to think of this as natural frizz treatment :) but it does really concern me. Someone also said DHEA increases ones sex drive- so that's a plus I should also consider.
The most concerning side effect of CoQ is breakouts- and of course I am attributing my four dirty chin pimples to the 2 weeks of CoQ ingestion. In reality- it's probably no more than I normally get....
Anyway- I wanted to be honest in this blog-vain or otherwise-, and this is something that has been on my mind. I know it's all worth it in the end- but we do put ourselves through some rough stuff to fulfill our dreams.
